What is a fad diet?

Fad diets are diet trends that aren’t backed by science that are popular at any given time. They are usually promoted or get attention based on personal success stories (that might not even be true) about losing weight or managing a health condition. These diets usually get attention in social media and sometimes even traditional media. 

Fad diets are usually restrictive, promise unrealistic health claims (usually losing weight), are expensive, or are eating habits you wouldn’t be able to stick to over time.
