How to Make Broiled Tomato and Cheese Sandwich

Step-By-Step Instructions:

  1. Preheat the broiler in your oven. 

  2. Place the slices of whole grain or whole wheat bread on a baking sheet. 

  3. Lightly toast one side of the bread slices under the broiler for 1–2 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning. 

  4. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the bread slices to the untoasted side. 

  5. Spread a thin layer of basil pesto on each untoasted side of the bread. 

  6. Place tomato slices on the bread.

  7. Top the tomatoes with slices of mozzarella cheese. Drizzle olive oil over the top. 

  8. Place the baking sheet back under the broiler for an additional 2–3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Top with sliced, fresh basil if desired.
